Time for an X-Men Fashion Review

In issue #39 of Uncanny X-Men the whole team got new looks. This is the first time that we've had a major shakeup of the costumes since the start with the yellow over blue sack uniforms (there was a minor change to the costumes to make them a little more formfitting and add more blue and less yellow a little bit back, but nothing major).

As such, it is time for a Fashion Review. I will look at all five of our new outfits and then review and rate them.

Jean Grey

This one is one of her iconic outfits, though I'll admit it isn't one I like too much. It screams "Girl" a bit too much and I can't figure out why anyone would want to fight in basically a dress. especially one that depending on the artist sits on or below the shoulders. She either must be taping it in place at the top, or using her TK to hold it up. Also I assume she is wearing shorts underneath? I hope so. Overall though it isn't visually offensive so much as just not my thing.

Rating: 5/10

Iceman

Look it's hard to screw up Iceman, other than the short period at the beginning where he looked like a snowman. Adding the X belt on there is a good look though. He's just a man made of ice. What can you possibly do wrong? (I'm sure someone can find an example of Iceman done wrong somewhere though)

Rating: 8/10

Beast

It's basic but it works. This is a great old school Beast look. I'm more partial to the Blue furry beast (OG blue furry beast before he gets the lion look) but when it comes to non-furry Beast, this one is good. Good basic colors, primarily only using two colors, and only dipping into a third for a small accent.

Rating: 7/10

Cyclops

This is one of the two most iconic Cyclops costumes out there (along with the 90s Jim Lee look). It isn't my favorite costume (I've always loved the white on blue X-Factor outfit, especially when he starts wearing it with the head condom off), but this one just screams Cyclops. It's simple and effective. He'll wear this suit pretty well unchanged all the way from now until 1986 when X-Factor first starts.

Rating: 10/10

Angel

I'm pretty sure Angel pissed Jean off (as she was the one who designed the costumes, cause girl). There is no other explanation of this costume. It is horrendous. Blue boots and head covering, with red leggings, with yellow shirt and shorts over it, red wristbands and red belt and suspenders (the belt is blue in some art). This is just incredibly horrendous Everything clashes.

  1. 1) Is Iceman wearing briefs or pants?
    2) I am very disconcerted by Beast's toes. Just. Someone please give him socks. Something.
    3) Poor Warren.
