Uncanny X-Men #117; Two Men Sit Down In a Bar, One Drops Dead

Our heroes are rescued by a Japanese ship, but apparently it is on a secret government mission, and is incapable of sending out any radio messages until it returns to Japan. So they continue to be out of contact, presumed dead, and presuming Beast and Phoenix dead.

But enough of that, let's see how Jean and Xavier are doing. Jean is leaving on a vacation, something to get her mind off of everything, as the X-Mansion is apparently too depressing with Xavier moping around it.

Lilandra tries to talk to Xavier, and he tells him a story from his time when he was wandering around the world like rich people with no direction in life do. After the Korean war, which had separated him and Moira, who were a thing before then (she sent him a Dear John letter, ouch), he was wandering around Cairo, when he got pickpocketed by a young Ororo (though he said he didn't notice who it was until later).

After he recovers his wallet, he senses a power like his own. He sits down in a bar, and the power makes himself known. Amahl Farouk, the Shadow King sits down at a table near him and they start talking. Recognizing he is evil, they have a mental battle. It is hard fought, but Xavier wins. Farouk just falls over dead for no apparent reason to everyone else. Xavier walks out.

Lilandra says "Well if you have nothing else to do here, why not come to the Shi'ar Empire with me." Xavier decides, sure, nothing left for me here, and they leave for space without telling anyone.

Later, at the airport, Jean runs into Misty Knight as they are both leaving, Jean going on vacation, and Misty and Colleen Wing heading to Japan for a mission.

X-tra Notes: Another big villain intro with Shadow King. Additionally, we are continuing with the "how do we keep the two groups of people who don't know the others are alive from contacting each other" plots.
