Uncanny X-Men #118-119: Sunfire Actually Says Something Nice About the X-Men

The X-Men finally reach Japan as the ship they are on returns home from whatever its secret mission was. But the port they come in at is on fire! They quickly head for the shore and discover that mass earthquakes had started the fire, but the place seems to be evacuated.

They had to Sunfire's estate, where they meet the Japanese prime minister as well as Misty Knight and Colleen Wing who are there to help. It is explained that a villain known as Moses Magnum has some kind of crazy technology that will let him shake Japan apart. He had given them warning about the location he destroyed earlier to show them he can really do it.

While planning out their attack on Moses Magnum, Cyclops tries to get in touch with the X-Mansion, but fails as Xavier disconnected all the lines before heading to space. Banshee puts off calling Moira. Misty Knight just... fails to tell any of them that she just saw Jean.

Anyway, the X-Men along with Sunfire infiltrate Moses Magnum's island headquarters, things go not great at first, and they have to run cause they are getting their asses kicked, but as Moses is about to activate his weapon, Banshee uses his scream at super hyper power to vibrate it at just the right frequency to have it blow itself up instead of causing earthquakes. Destroying the whole island. The X-Men survive, but Banshee's sonic scream seems to be burned out.

Sunfire then actually says he will always be there to help them, and the Japanese government sets up a flight for them home.

X-Tra Notes: This also introduces Mariko, a cousin of Sunfire and love interest of Wolverine. Also that Wolverine can speak and read Japanese. We even get the cliche "you never told me you could..." "you never asked" bit. We also continue to get the "oops, we just missed each other". Banshee could have called Moira. Cyclops could have called Jean's parents. There are just several things that COULD have been done that nobody did that would have clued them in that they are all alive.
