Uncanny X-Men #123-124: X-Men vs The Whimsical Jigsaw Killer

The comic starts off with the X-Men enjoying a night off. Scott and Colleen are out on a date (MISTY PLEASE), and are caught by Arcade's weird garbage truck. Piotr and Kurt are out on a date with Betsy and Amanda at some kind of performance, where Arcade's assistant gasses them. Wolverine is dropping off Mariko back at the embassy (apparently they resolved that issue of not letting him in off screen), when the truck kidnaps him, too. Finally, Arcade sneaks into the X-Mansion to grab Storm and Banshee with tranq darts.

With our heroes caged, we begin Arcade's silly games. He launches them in the clear pinballs, and they each go down a different hole and face their own challenge. Cyclops is presented with three doors, and a wall closing in on him that will make him choose. Wolverine is facing funhouse mirrors that make weird distorted duplicates of himself. Nightcrawler is facing crazy bladed bumper cars. Banshee is facing a partially holographic WWII battle. Storm is facing a room slowly filling with water that her lightning can't penetrate. And Colossus is facing a robot facsimile of a KGB officer who is interrogating him about his loyalty to Mother Russia.

Cyclops makes the first move as he decides to shoot the wall rather than pick any of the doors (which were apparently all death traps anyway), which gets him into the hallway with Wolverine. The two of them fight through the weird funhouse Wolvies (honestly this must have been quite cathartic for Scott), but then are faced with Colossus, now brainwashed into thinking he must kill the X-Men for his country.

Arcade is having a grand time, and tells the Colleen, Amanda, and Betsy as much, as they are all wrapped up like presents in the control room. He then tells them about how he was a rich asshole from Beverly Hills who killed his dad and found he liked killing. Yeah, sounds about right.

Fighting Colossus, Cyke and Wolvie get knocked through different doors. Cyke ends up with Nightcrawler, and does a crazy pool bouncing shot to hit every bumper car with one shot. Wolverine ends up with Banshee, and is able to "see" which ones are real and fake using his other senses. They break out of the room, to find themselves fighting robot versions of Hulk and Magneto.

Storm finally pushes her powers to the limit, overcoming the claustrophobia to blast herself free. Nightcrawler gets the drop on Arcade through some teleports, but gets stunned.

As they all manage to get together (minus Kurt), Colossus appears again, and while beating the rest of them, Storm just appeals to his nature and wins him back. Arcade cuts his losses and runs, launching them all out of Murderworld. He also launches the 3 girls + Nightcrawler out with a note saying, paraphrased "You won this time, but I'll be back".

X-Tra Notes: Arcade is such a silly villain. That said, this is still a fun set of comics. I like the idea of playing to the whole thing that Colossus is an "American" super-hero but is actually from the Soviet Union, and that there is a lot going on with that.
