Uncanny X-Men #129-#131: Xavier Gives Wolverine Ten Demerits

The X-Men head home from Muir Island, sans Banshee, who has decided to stay since his sonic scream powers have still not returned, and he feels that Moira needs support (which, yeah). Jamie, Alex, and Lorna also decide not to join the X-Men. Jean returns with them.

On the way home, Jean has another of her "oops, all 1700s" mindslips, and continues to think it is just remembering a past life instead of Wyngarde screwing with her brain. When they get back they discover that Xavier is back!

And Xavier gets right back to being an ass... I mean, teaching the X-Men. He treats them like children, because of course he does, he's the only one who knows anything right? Cyclops tries to tell him that "hey you haven't been around them much, I understand them way better, and your way isn't going to work" which results in Xavier being an absolute piece of shit.

I really wish we could have gotten more on this, but then immediately the focus changes as Cerebro picks up two new Mutant signatures, and the team immediately split up to go find them.

Except we also learn that Warhawk had been working for Emma Frost of the Hellfire club, and he had set bugs all over the place when he was there. So Emma knows about the mutants as well, and sends people after them. She also knows all about their powers.

Our first group of X-Men, Xavier, Storm, Wolverine, and Colossus, visit Kitty Pryde, a 13 year old girl who can walk through walls. As they arrive they see Emma (who they don't know yet) leaving, having pitched her own school for Kitty.

Our second group of X-Men, Cyclops, Phoenix, and Nightcrawler go to a New York disco and find Dazzler, a mutant that doesn't so much want to be a superhero as a singer. She has the ability to turn sound into light. Also, she is the epitome of the disco era.

Both groups are attacked by Hellfire Club power armor suits (group 2 at the club, group 1 when they take Kitty to get ice cream while Xavier talks to her parents). The suits are each configured to deal with one of the X-Men's powers, and group 1 manages to whammy them by switching up who fought which one. But then they get psychically whammied by Emma Frost. Kitty manages to escape but group 1 of the X-Men are taken. Kitty manages to sneak after them (how she avoided Emma's TP powers and remains undetected who knows) and gets the number to call the rest of the X-Men from the captured Storm.

Group 2 manages to escape thanks to the help of Dazzler, who the Hellfire Club wasn't able to prepare for. They also connect up with Kitty who had called them on their car phone.

Together, they all attack Emma Frost's HQ where she is holding the other X-Men (including Xavier, who was captured off screen). Kitty finds out that she can screw up electronics she phases through when she unlocks Wolverine's cage while trying to phase through the lock.

A grand melee ensues, Phoenix fights Emma and Phoenix runs her over and blows up the whole building. The X-Men plus Dazzler and Kitty seem fine, but Emma is nowhere to be found.

Kitty joins the school. Dazzler says "thanks but no thanks, I want to be a singer".

X-Tra Notes: Just assume that throughout the stories, more "timeslip" fuckery happens whether I say it or not. Mastermind is continuing to screw with Jean's mind. Which is probably a bad idea. This is the first actual big introduction of the Hellfire Club. A bunch of rich, powerful assholes, who just want to be richer, more powerful assholes. Aren't we glad that people like that only exist in fiction?
