Beast arrives, having seen the Avengers alert (which he erased and then brought a Quinjet to where they were fighting). He helps the X-Men escape to the school and questions what to do next. He begins working on a device to scramble her brain if they can get it on her.
Meanwhile, Jean has space-gated across the galaxy to the Shi'ar empire, where in her hunger for more power, she supernova's a star and eats the energy. Oh, also, the sun had an inhabited planet. Oops. She then blows up a Shi'ar ship that is in contact with Lilandra.
Then we learn, though Scott's psychic rapport with her (he also experienced the whole sun eating), that she is on her way back to Earth and hungry. Jean first visits her childhood home and sees her family, they talk to her, but she can't block out that deep down they are afraid of her (you know what, I can see why), her father reacts badly, she reacts badly, and then the X-Men arrive to try to stop her.
Nightcrawler gets the device Beast built onto her head, but even with her powers severely dampened she still rolls the X-Men for the most part, and she is burning out the device. Wolverine has a chance to kill her, but he hesitates and she burns out the device and blasts him away.

Cyclops starts to talk her down, and she is pulling back, but then Xavier psy-bolts her like an idiot. Instead of recognizing the idiocy when Scott was getting through to her, it turns into a one on one psybattle between them, and Xavier instead manages to reseal the Phoenix behind the psychic barriers Jean had built before.
Jean is back! But then, suddenly they all disappear...
X-Tra Notes: Honestly, I hate hate hate that Xavier blasts her when Scott is getting through to her. Like, seriously, it is never addressed again, but it seems like letting Scott talk her down and then Xavier trying to PEACEFULLY reseal Phoenix while she is holding on would have made much more sense. Like, he didn't even manage to knock her out with the psy-bolt anyway. All he did was piss her off. It was one more of the "Xavier always thinks he knows best" moments that just kind of gets ignored by the writing other than a brief outburst from Scott asking why.
