Dazzler #1-5: Everybody Loves Dazzler

So Dazzler. I contemplated whether I wanted to even make posts about this series, but the truth is, my neuroses would not let me skip them as they are technically canon to 616. It's hard to even explain how batshit weird these comics are. They don't seem to operate on the same rules or logic as the rest of the Marvel universe. I joke that X-Men is a soap opera, but Dazzler is truly a soap opera. It is also just completely absurd, with Dazzler being loved by the entire Superhero community and facing off against foes WAY out of her league.

Dazzler #1-2: Dazzler is saved by Spidey as she is being hassled by some criminals that work for her current manager who is also a crime boss. This is never mentioned again. The Beast sees a single article about an audition and runs off to tell her, because that is more important than Avengers work. Oh, also Enchantress is going to the same audition because you know, there is an interdimensional rift that is going to open up there that will give her infinite power. She loses to Dazzler at the audition. She attacks Dazzler at the show, but like a billion superheroes are there cause they all love Dazzler and they win. Oh she also lands an only moderately shitty manager Harry S. Osgood because a ton of super heroes all showed up at his office to demand he listen to her.

Dazzler #3-4: Dazzler is performing at a museum showing some gems that belonged to Doom. Doom shows up to get one that is a magical gem, and then kidnaps Dazzler to send her into Nightmare's realm to find another one. She fights a negative version of herself, then fights Nightmare and escapes with the gem. Then she makes a laser with her power, blows up a bunch of Doom's stuff, and he runs away cause Human Torch was looking for her and he thinks the whole FF is coming.

Dazzle #5: Dazzler is in the hospital and so is an old lady dying of "heartbreak" because of her son. She tries to figure out what is going on on her own and ends up mixed up with some mob violence, a hero called the "Blue Shield" who is actually also a gangster but he is using his position to attack mob stuff, and an experimental tank. Also it introduces her first love interest: the random doctor who saw her at the hospital.

X-Tra Notes: Honestly, I can't truly do these justice in such little time, but also, these aren't important enough to the X-Men story to really spend that much time on either for what I'm doing. If you want a real deep dive on them, there is a really hilarious set of longer reviews of the whole series over at Comics Archeology that I've been reading as I read through them myself.
